Over generations, a natural, mutually beneficial partnership developed: early humans provided a steady source of nutrition and safety, while these early canines provided vigilant protection, tracking skills during hunts, and vital warmth during freezing nights. As human societies shifted to settled farming, the roles of dogs expanded. Beyond physical variety, dogs have astonishing senses. A dog's sense of smell is ten thousand to one hundred thousand times more sensitive than a human's, featuring up to three hundred million olfactory receptors compared to our five million. This allows them to track missing people, find contraband, and detect diseases like cancer or diabetes.
