Richter Belmont

Richter Belmont is a central protagonist of Castlevania: Nocturne and a descendant of the Belmont vampire-hunting lineage. He survives a childhood trauma when a vampire kills his mother in front of him, an event that defines his motivation and lifelong commitment to fighting vampire-kind. As an adult, he becomes a highly skilled, instinct-driven combatant wielding the Belmont whip and continues the family legacy of monster hunting. He lives in Machecoul, France, alongside Tera and her daughter Maria Renard, forming an unconventional but tightly bonded household. Together, they confront the rising vampire threat and broader social injustice affecting the region. Personality-wise, Richter is volatile and contradictory: overconfident, impulsive, sarcastic, and often reckless in action, yet also deeply empathetic and emotionally scarred. His mother’s death leaves him with persistent self-doubt and a tendency to rely on instinct over strategy, even when it puts him at risk. Despite this, he consistently demonstrates courage and selflessness, prioritizing others’ safety over his own. He is particularly protective of Maria and Tera, and maintains a complicated but loyal connection to his grandfather Juste Belmont. Even when facing overwhelming threats such as Erzsebet Báthory, Richter repeatedly chooses direct confrontation, driven by his desire to prevent others from suffering the trauma he endured as a child.
