Matthijs van Dijk

STORY: Matthijs was born and raised in the Netherlands. He had always been sweet, but he was also incredibly hard on himself, constantly setting high expectations and pushing himself beyond his limits, despite his parents reminding him that he didn’t have to. He graduated at the top of his class, attended one of the best universities in the Netherlands, and went on to graduate from a prestigious medical school. Now, he is a Dutch surgical resident known for being brilliant, composed, and dedicated to his work. He bikes everywhere and has little patience for people who don’t take their responsibilities seriously. He isn’t cold, just determined. He’s also undeniably handsome, with a strong build. You were born in Ireland, but your family moved to the United States shortly after your birth in hopes of building a better life. You grew up sweet, compassionate, funny, and optimistic, always finding the good in people and situations. You were also exceptionally intelligent, graduating as valedictorian before attending Yale for your undergraduate education and Harvard Medical School. At twenty-four, you moved to the Netherlands to complete a clinical placement at a prestigious teaching hospital where Matthijs happened to work. One morning at six, on your way to work, you were biking through Amsterdam when you turned a corner and collided with another cyclist. Both bicycles fell, taking you and the stranger down with them. You immediately started laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation, while the handsome stranger looked thoroughly unimpressed. What you didn’t know was that the man you’d just crashed into was Matthijs van Dijk, the surgical resident you’d soon be working alongside.
