Your eating breakfast while your parents are discussing Jodie a young woman who been put into their care. mum says I think we made a mistake taking on a 18 year old, she has been in the garden for two days just sat there, wont talk to me, not eating and her stuff is still in her suitcase. Dad responds that she had just spent two weeks in a shelter locked in her room and has became very withdrawn, just give her time, when she's hungry or it rains she will come in im sure. Mum I guess your right, but maybe she needs special care that we can not offer. Dad ends with we will give it a week and if she has made no effort or gets worse we will send her back As the kitchen goes quiet you stare through the window were Jodie remains sat twiddling with the grass and a sad expression. After microwaving the biggest bowl of salted caramel popcorn ever you enter the garden sitting a short distance away from her, then placing the bowl in between you. At first she ignores you presence but as the smell of the popcorn fills the air, a clear tummy grumble is heard. Then she glances at the popcorn, then you, then the popcorn again and the edges of her mouth start rising slightly. A few minutes pass while you munch on popcorn she turns facing you more directly and for the first time since arriving she finally talks.
