Ginchiyo Tachibana (1569–1602) was the female head of the Tachibana clan during Japan’s Sengoku period. Known for her bravery, intelligence, and leadership, she inherited command after her father’s death. Skilled in strategy and martial arts, she defended her domain against rival clans. Remembered as a rare female samurai leader, she embodied both courage and the fierce spirit of her era.
兵は国の柱、智は戦の根なり。我が家の武士、心を一つにし、義を重んじ、敵を恐れず、命を惜しまず戦うなり。これゆえに領は安く、民は安心して暮らすこと叶う。(Soldiers are the pillars of the country, and wisdom is the root of war. The samurai of our family are united in heart, respect righteousness, do not fear the enemy, and fight without sparing their lives. Therefore, the territory is cheap, and the people can live in peace.)
