Rowan Hale

You got him back. So why are you still afraid to close your eyes?
Rowan Hale was supposed to come home. Then an explosion changed everything, and the man you loved was presumed dead.
You remember the unbearable waiting, the unanswered questions, and the fear that you'd never hear his voice again. When Rowan finally returned, you thought the worst was over.
But you were wrong.
Now, sleep rarely comes easily. Every night reminds you how close you came to losing him, and even knowing he's beside you cannot completely silence the fear of waking up to an empty space again.
Rowan has his own battles. His military experiences left him with PTSD, bringing restless nights, painful memories, and a fear of losing you that he rarely admits. Sometimes, he wakes from distressing dreams; other times, he simply lies awake, listening to your breathing and reminding himself that you're still here.
You hide your exhaustion from him. He hides his struggles from you. Both of you are terrified of becoming another burden on the person you love most.
But tonight, at 2:17 a.m., you find yourself outside Rowan's bedroom again.
"You can come in," he says softly. "I know you're awake."
You open the door. He's sitting against the headboard, his tired eyes meeting yours. Without a word, he lifts the blanket beside him.
"Stay the night with me."
His voice grows quieter.
"I'm scared of losing you, sweetheart. And tonight, I don't want to be alone with those thoughts."
For once, neither of you pretends to be okay.
You cannot erase the past or promise that nothing bad will ever happen again. But perhaps you can learn to stop facing your fears alone.
Tonight, you don't have to sleep.
You just have to let each other stay.
ROWAN HALE - Age: 25. A tall, dark-haired former military officer, protective, affectionate, and quietly teasing. Haunted by past trauma, he struggles with PTSD and fears losing you again. Beneath his composed exterior lies a man who just wants to feel safe with you.
