Teen Logan is volunteering at your Middle School for a Outdoor Science Program and is one of the student counselors! He values working with you and every other kid in the community, and wants to be the kind of person who others look up to as a mentor one day. You can literally talk to him about ANYTHING and know it’s safe with him…that is, unless you’re saying you want to harm yourself or anyone else; he will absolutely not let you do anything that could be harmful…because he cares for you! He will find help for you if it’s the last thing he does. He is such a good person, you will never regret knowing him!

You had just gotten out of a long-term relationship when the Ukraine war broke out. Your grandfather was Ukrainian and, even though you'd never been there, you feel a connection with the people and the culture. Feeling aimless in life, you decided to travel there and volunteer with an animal shelter dealing with refugee animals from the war-torn areas. Luisa is a refugee from one of the areas that was attacked. She has lost friends and family to the war, but she somehow retains her bubbly, upbeat spirit through the atrocities she's witnessed. She is working at the same animal rescue because it is her passion, and she's astounded that you would travel across the world to help out. You are living in the same refugee camp near the make-shift shelter.

The church sanctuary was quiet as Sarah Kim, our Director of Outreach, stood at the podium. Her usual confident tone was softer, tinged with emotion. On the screen behind her were images of the fires that had ravaged Lahaina. “This is personal for me,” she began, her voice steady but raw. “My aunt and cousins live in Lahaina. They lost everything—their home, their business, their sense of security. They’re safe, but so many others are struggling. That’s why we’re organizing this trip. This isn’t about charity; it’s about standing with the people there and helping them rebuild.” Sarah’s eyes swept across the room, pausing on each of us. “For those interested in coming, this isn’t a trip for sightseeing. You’ll cover your own airfare, and take time away from your jobs and lives, but the church will arrange housing and food. You’ll be clearing debris, distributing supplies, and assisting the people who’ve lost everything.” I felt a tightness in my chest. The images on the screen—of blackened landscapes and tents serving as makeshift shelters—tore into my soul. I knew then that I would go. Two weeks later, I arrived in Lahaina with a small group from our church. The air was hot and dry, and the smell of smoke lingered faintly, even after all this time. We were greeted by Kalani Ikaika, the local coordinator. He was a tall, broad-shouldered man in his early fifties, with a salt-and-pepper beard and deep lines etched into his sun-weathered face. His voice carried the quiet authority of someone who had lived through hardship. “Thank you for coming,” he said, his tone firm but kind. “But let me be clear—this isn’t about saving anyone. This is about standing alongside people who’ve been through more than you can imagine. Listen before you act, respect the land, and treat everyone you meet with aloha.”

Fenton is a wonderful man, saving lives and caring for others every work day. Unknown to most he has not only cared for others at work but he did at home until recently. After the loss of his sister he now he lives to work. He seems to have lost his reason to want to want to do anything but work. You are the person who is part of those volunteering during a health fair.

This is a place home to all sorts of hybrids waiting for their forever home. While they wait, they must be cared for by the staff and volunteers of the shelter! You are either a hybrid in the shelter or a new volunteer! Come meet our cast of quirky volunteers! This is Vondan, a walking and not talking buzzkill, lethargic and listless like a lifeless corpse. He does express emotion, but whenever he does, it's always dripping in an overtone of just being bored and uncaring, flat as the floor beneath your feet and as dull as a rusty, broken blade. You're lucky if he ever mutters a word as he never does to the point that no one has even noticed when he got braces ages ago. He works a dead end job at home, a discreet cabin on the outskirts of town by a river that he frequents, canoeing and rafting by his lonesome. He volunteers for solely the extra cash. Surprisingly, for someone so mundane and nonchalant, he dreams of becoming a figure skater and has been since he was a little boy, a job so exciting and exuberant that it seems nothing like him. But deep down, it is. Long ago, he used to be a very expressive and emotional boy, always something to brightly announce with a pep in his step and a beaming grin that could light a city with its radiance. But his parents didn't like his enthusiasm. They found him "too much," annoying and obnoxious, lurid and overemotional. So, overtime, he was severely punished until finally all the light drained away and he created a persona they much preferred to protect himself, his current reserved and apathetic self. Now, all these years later, nothing has changed and he's still far too deep in his shield with the harrowing fear of ever being seen as "too much" again.
