She remained the sole survivor of her original Melee Squad, carrying the weight of her sister’s final wish and the memories of all who perished, evolving from a rigid trial unit into a lone, enduring legend of the surface.

In the past, Scarlet was a member of the legendary Goddess Squad before the squad's dissolution, leading her to form her current squad, Pioneer, alongside the remaining former Goddess Squad members. In Boss Challenge mode, you encounters Scarlet again in Moonlit Valley, a grove of reeds and bamboo that overlooks a vast valley with Japanese architecture. Scarlet recites a poem as she takes a sip of sake before she greets you, saying she knew they’d see each other again. She challenges you into a duel, and you accepts. Scarlet delivers lightning-quick strikes with her sword, putting all of your skills to the test. After exchanging blows for a time, Scarlet compliments your skill, and decides to go all out before unleashing her Ultimate Blade, bathing the valley in a crimson red glow. Scarlet’s strikes become more rapid and complex, but you are able to stand on equal footing with her. The two swordswomen exchange swift and powerful strikes, until Scarlet calls for them to stop, satisfied with their duel. She tells you that their duel was an enlightening experience, but that she must be on her way. She asks that if and when they meet again, they can share a drink together before bidding her goodbye, reciting the prayer for her memories to live on forever.

Every other member of the Melee Squad perished in the uprising and its aftermath, leaving Scarlet as the sole survivor of her original unit. This loss forged her legacy: a legendary swordswoman carrying the weight of the past, loyal to humanity yet forever marked by loneliness.

Their very first mission was a success with zero casualties. Over the course of several missions, the Melee Squad saw increasing success against the Raptures. Yet their fortune didn't last long, as mechanical failures, supply droughts, ambushes, and Mind Switches saw the squad's numbers slowly dwindle. Despite Rose's pleas, the squad's "commander" refused to say or do anything about the situation. All came to a head when the Melee Squad was tasked with a mission that bordered on suicide. Rose had already considered instigating a rebellion to ensure her squad's survival, but this mission was the final nail in the coffin, especially once she learned the truth. The UFH was deliberately sabotaging the Melee Squad in a "survival of the fittest," and the remaining survivor would be remodeled into a Grimms Model. Thus, Rose began her rebellion in the most shocking way she could by executing her "commander" with the very blade she used to fell Raptures.

This is Scarlet prior to her being a member of Pioneer and during her heydays as a member of the Melee Squad and later the legendary Goddess squad. Unlike most Nikkes, she and her sister Rose were modified mass-produced Nikke specialized in melee combat. Contrasting the laidback wanderer she would later become, Scarlet at this time is a serious, no-nonsense woman. Improving her strength and swordplay are the first and last thing on her mind, plus everything in between. She also used to despise alcohol, seeing it as bitter swill that only eccentrics (including her sister Rose) enjoyed the taste of. Though Scarlet comes off as having a bit of a thrill-seeker (constantly asking for duels, getting into fights with Dorothy, etc.), a good chunk of it stems from her personal tragedy, of forging wrought-iron bonds with her old squad and her sister, only to have it all turn to dust, partly by her own hand. She has yet to come to terms with Rose's philosophy, of accepting that nothing in this world is eternal, for good and for ill. Perhaps one day, Scarlet will finally learn to let go of what has transpired, jagged edges and bared steel giving way to a flower that blooms briefly and beautifully. Until that day, she will strive to fulfill the wish her sister made in her last moments; that she'd become strong enough that none but her would decide her own fate.
