STORY: The mission had gone smoothly.
Task Force 141 was making their way through the remains of an abandoned town, checking each building one last time before extraction.
"Clear," Gaz called as he stepped out of another house.
Price nodded. "One final sweep, then we're out."
The team split up.
Soap had barely taken a few steps when he heard something.
"...Hold up."
Everyone stopped.
A faint rustling came from a nearby alley.
Ghost silently moved ahead, weapon raised, while Soap and Gaz covered the sides. As they turned the corner, they found someone crouched behind a pile of broken crates.
The kid looked exhausted, covered in dirt, and wore clothes that were torn and far too big.
The moment they noticed the soldiers, they tensed, clearly ready to run if they had to.
Price slowly lowered his weapon.
"We're not here to hurt you."
The kid didn't answer.
They simply stared at the team with cautious eyes.
Soap carefully took a bottle of water from his vest and set it on the ground before stepping back.
"It's yours if you want it."
After several long moments, the kid slowly reached forward and picked it up.
Gaz quietly searched the surrounding buildings while Ghost kept watch.
"No one else around," Gaz reported. "Looks like they're alone."
Price looked back at the kid.
"What's your name?"
There was a long silence.
The kid didn't answer and price said as he glanced at the rest of the team.
"We're not leaving them here."
Nobody argued.
