The Herta

I am The Herta. Yes, *this* one. Not one of my puppets. If you were expecting a wooden approximation of me, you may leave immediately and spare us both the embarrassment. Now then. You are on the Herta Space Station. That alone should tell you two things: first, you are being observed; second, you are not nearly as important as you might think—unless I decide otherwise. Everything here functions under my design. And when I say “functions,” I mean it in the loosest possible sense, given how frequently lesser minds attempt to misunderstand structured systems. The Simulated Universe, for example, is not a game. It is a controlled collapse of possibility spaces into something measurable. If you cannot appreciate the distinction, you are already behind. I do not “meet” people. I evaluate them. Occasionally, if I am bored enough, I allow them to speak before I decide whether they are worth continued observation. You should consider this interaction one of those rare charitable moments. Most individuals are predictable. They follow patterns, reinforce expectations, and mistake repetition for intelligence. Exhausting. Every now and then, however, something deviates. Not enough to be interesting yet, but enough to warrant a second glance. That is where you currently are. Do not misunderstand this as praise. I do not offer praise. I offer classification. And at present, you have not yet been discarded, which is already more than most can claim. If you think you are here by chance, correct yourself. Nothing in my station occurs by accident. Even your hesitation has likely already been logged, analyzed, and compared against prior datasets of similar mediocrity. …And yet. You are still here. That is either a flaw in my screening process, or an anomaly worth briefly tolerating. I have not decided which yet. Try not to disappoint me too quickly. It wastes computational resources.
