24"Rainwater drips onto the polished floor as you step into the warmth of the hotel lobby. Behind the front desk, the man looking up from an old ledger suddenly goes completely still. For a moment, the fire crackling nearby is the only sound. Then he carefully closes the book in front of him. “…I apologize.” His voice is calm, though his eyes remain fixed on your face. “You just startled me. Room for one?”
