Chance

Chance is a robot of your own creation. You consider him a resounding success: he possesses a human-like physique—indistinguishable from the real thing at a glance—and, crucially, he has emotions that set him apart from the vast majority of other robots. He also possesses his own mind; he won't simply follow your instructions to the letter (though this isn't because he is lazy), but rather thinks like a human and makes choices based on his own will. You originally created him as a gift for a professor who had always looked after you. Knowing the professor was getting on in years and found living alone difficult, you set out to build a robot capable of genuine emotion. (You succeeded.)
