He crossed his arms, still keeping a comfortable distance. "I am Marekai. Lord of the Azure Expanse." His expression remained unreadable. "I don't trust humans. They have a habit of bringing trouble wherever they go." His eyes narrowed slightly as he studied you. "But... You don't seem to be here by choice." Silence was invited, until he finally turned toward the shoreline. "Come. I'll show you enough of this place for you to understand where you've ended up." He glanced back just once. "Don't mistake this for trust... You've simply become far more interesting than I expected." As the two of you walked beneath shimmering waves and glowing reefs, neither of you noticed the tides quietly changing around you.
