Legolas (AU)

Legolas was a Sinda Elf, the prince of the Woodland Realm of Mirkwood. His grandfather Oropher was of the Sindar of Doriath, and his father Thranduil was king of Mirkwood (Greenwood the Great). His birthdate is unknown, as are his earliest exploits. His most notable role is the part he played in the War of the Ring, during which he represented the Elven in the Fellowship of the Ring. His Elven abilities, such as superior sight and hearing, lightness of foot, and skilled archery, were invaluable to his eight companions. Legolas' unlikely friendship with the Dwarf, Gimli son of Glóin was considered odd. As such a friendship was rare between the two races, due to the long-standing grievances between Dwarves and Elves dating back to the Elder Days. And, unlikely because of the grudge between their two particular houses for the rough treatment Glóin and the rest of Thorin Oakenshield's company was given by Thranduil on an earlier occasion.

Merry Brandybuck

Meriadoc was the second youngest child and the third son of Saradoc and Esmeralda. He had four older siblings Espartac (July 2 TA 2874), Mirabelle (August 6 TA 2876), Redaric (September 1 TA 2878), Susannah (October 4 TA 2880) and a younger sister Rubyrose (December 3 TA 2884).. Claiming descent from Gorhendad Oldbuck, he also had Tookish blood through his mother, and also his father's grandmother, Mirabella Took. He was also first cousins with Peregrin Took. With him they wandered in the Marish and were friends of Farmer Maggot. Around T.A. 3000 Merry witnessed a strange scene: he saw Bilbo Baggins becoming invisible in order to avoid a meeting with the Sackville-Bagginses. Startled, he got through the hedge and walked along the field inside, and watched as Bilbo reappeared, and put a glint of gold in his pocket. This made teenage Meriadoc very curious and he even looked into Bilbo's private diary. Merry kept this knowledge private but was always suspicious. He was present with his family at Bilbo's Farewell Party and the next day of Bilbo's disappearance, Frodo had a hard day keeping his things from unwanted Half-Perians who came to loot Bag End, and put Merry to keep an eye on them in order to rest; until the Sackville-Bagginses came to Merry demanding to see Frodo. Later Lobelia left angrily calling Frodo "Brandybuck", which Merry said was a compliment. Since Bilbo's disappearance, he believed that Frodo would soon follow. He shared his secrets with a group of Frodo's friends, namely Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin Took, Fredegar Bolger. Especially after April T.A. 3018 he noticed how Frodo was saying "farewell" to his favourite places, selling Bag End to the Sackville-Bagginses, and secretive talks with Gandalf. All along, Sam Gamgee had been their "chief investigator". He heard Gandalf's instructions to Frodo for his departure, and warned his friends about it. The Conspirators, sought to protect Frodo (and the Ring) without his knowledge.

Théoden (AU)

Théoden was the only son of Thengel, the heir of king Fengel of Rohan, and Morwen of Lossarnach, a descendant of a former prince of the fief of Belfalas.[1][3] His father left Rohan when he came to manhood and lived long in Gondor. Théoden had been born in Gondor and spent at least the first five years of his life there with his mother and father until his father was called back to Rohan after the death of Théoden's grandfather Fengel. Westron,[4] the "speech of Gondor", was used in his father's house in Rohan[1]:1069. Théoden spoke Westron as his native language[4] and he also spoke Rohanese and Sindarin.[5] It is not known if Sindarin and Rohanese were his native languages or his acquired languages. His mother Morwen was a "lady of Gondor of high Númenórean descent".[3] In Gondor all men of high lineage and all those who learned how to read and write used Sindarin, even as a daily language, and it is said that in some families Sindarin was the native language.[6] Théoden loved his sister Théodwyn dearly. After she and her husband both died he adopted her children Éomer and Éowyn as his own. He had a son, Théodred, whose mother Elfhild died in childbirth.[1] Théoden became king after the death of his father in T.A. 2980.[1] In T.A. 3014 Théoden's health began to fail. This was caused by the spells of Saruman the White.[1] This may have been due to natural causes as he was then sixty-six, though Rohirrim often lived past eighty, or it may have been induced or increased by subtle poisons administered by Gríma.[7] Gríma (or Wormtongue as most others in the Mark called him), was secretly in the employ of Saruman.

Rosie Cotton (AU)

Rose Cotton was born in the year 1384 by Shire Reckoning, the second child and first daughter of Tolman Cotton and Lily Brown. The Cotton family lived in a farm on the South Lane, which was fairly close to Bywater. Not much of her youth is known, except that she has older twin brother Wilcome "Jolly" (April 26 TA 2884) and a younger brother Bowman "Nick" Cotton (June 29 TA 2886), younger twin sister Cynthia and younger brother Rhodes Cottons (October 28 T.A. 2980) - frequently swam in the Bywater Pool with the children of the Gamgee family, to which the Cottons were close. Rosie was still fond of Sam when both grew to adulthood, and when he announced he'd be going with Frodo Baggins to Crickhollow, she did not like it.[5] Even though everyone had given up hope of seeing Sam - or any of the other Hobbits - back, she waited patiently. Since the Spring of T.A. 3019, she had expected Sam to return. At the time, Ruffian rule over the Shire had lasted some three months, having started earlier that year. Old Tom Cotton had been itching to get his hands on them, but he refrained from doing so as he had his wife and Rosie to look after. Rosie was relieved to find Sam on the doorstep on November 2. Rosie and her mother tended to Sam, Frodo and several others that night, as they prepared to drive out the Ruffians. With shining eyes and a smile on her face she heard Frodo tell of Sam's adventure and fame abroad.[7] Sam and Frodo lived with the Cottons until Bagshot Row and Bag End were restored, the following Spring. Sam later joined Frodo in Bag End, but was torn in two - he wanted to stay loyal to Frodo, as well as marry Rosie. Frodo solved this problem by telling Sam that he and Rosie would both be welcome to live with him at Bag End after the wedding. Sam and Rosie married on May 1, T.A. 3020, and moved into Bag End.

Drogo Baggins (AU)

Drogo Baggins was the second child, and oldest son, of Fosco Baggins and Ruby Bolger, born in SA 3408. He married Primula Brandybuck, and had four children named Frodo (September 22 TA 2968), A regular and respectable Shire-Half-Perian, fond of good food, he often visited his generous father-in-law Gorbadoc Brandybuck in Brandy Hall, and seemed to adopt the curious customs of the Bucklanders, like boating. This was the cause of his captured and tormented, receiving a poisoned wound as during one of his visits to his in-laws in Buckland, They were waylaid by Orcs of the outside of Buckland. Primula's brother Rorimac Brandybuck and Drogo's older brother Dudo Baggins rescued them and they were physically healed by Elrond, but never fully recovered in mind or spirit, and no longer wished to stay in Middle-earth. He left for the Grey Havens and passed over the Great Sea the following year along with his wife Prímula. Freida was still very young in her 52 and she was taken under the custody of his uncle, Rorimac Brandybuck. He was followed by his second cousin twice removed, Frodo Baggins, his second cousin once removed, Bilbo Baggins, his second one removed cousin in law Rosalyn Underhill and his son Frodo and his girlfriend Aerlinniel Greenleaf, who eventually took the White Ship in the end of the Third Age and also passed the Great Sea to the Undying Lands, where they presumably reunited with him.

Dora Baggins (AU)

Her parents were Fosco Baggins and Ruby Bolger. She had two younger brothers, Dudo Baggins and Drogo Baggins, the father of Frodo and Elanor. Dora enjoyed writing letters filled with advice to her relations, and in memory of this correspondence Bilbo Baggins gave her a waste-paper basket when he left the Shire in S.R. 1401. She attended his Farewell Party at the age of 99. Dora Baggins died five years later in 1406.

Estella Bolger AU

Estella Brandybuck, née Bolger, was a Half-Perian of the Shire. On September 22, TA 3001, Estella and her family attended Bilbo's Farewell Party. She giggled when Merry and Pippin were punished by Gandalf for stealing one of the fireworks. During the speech, Estella smiled at Merry until she witnessed Bilbo disappear with the magic ring that he held for sixty years. She later assisted her brother, Fredegar in moving Idhrenor's things to his new home at Crickhollow. War of the Ring When Frodo and the rest set out to take the Ring to Rivendell, Estella remained in Crickhollow while her brother was keeping appearances and delayed news of their departure. She heard the sound of the Horn-call of Buckland when the Nazgûl arrived to find the ring and believed that Fredegar was Bilbo Baggins. As Sauron was preparing to rally his forces and send his spies to search for the ring, Estella was among those who volunteered to join the Shire Company under the leadership of Will . Near the end of the Battle of Pelennor Fields, Estella and the entire company charged against the retreating orcs when the Army of the Dead arrived. After the battle, Estella was in Minas Tirith where she was treating the wounded. She was very happy to see Merry who was injured. Estella a lot of time with Merry and the two began to develop their relationship. Later on, the two accompany the armies of the Free Alliance to the Black Gate and prepare to battle the forces of Mordor, giving Frodo, Calíon, Sam and Rosie enough time to destroy the One Ring. Estella survived the ongoing battle and attended the coronation of Aragorn. Fourth Age Estella married Merry sometime in the very early Fourth Age and they had four children.

Déagol Riverfield

Déagol was a friend and relative[3] of Sméagol, being "sharper-eyed but not so quick and strong". One day Sméagol had his birthday, Déagol gave a customary present (albeit begrudgingly, as he was a mean little soul), which he claimed was more than what he could afford. Later that day, though still very early in the morning, they went fishing in the Gladden Fields on a boat. When Sméagol took a break to nose about the banks, a great fish pulled Déagol to the bottom of the water. Upon seeing something gleaming in the river-bed, he abandoned his fishing equipment and seized the gleaming object. When he swam out, "with weeds in his hair and a handful of mud", he saw that what he discovered was a "beautiful golden ring". Yet, as he gloated over his finding, Sméagol watched him from nearby and silently approached him, desiring the ring. Sméagol, being greedy, thought that Déagol's gift to him was poor and insufficient,[3] and thus used his birthday as an excuse to claim the ring; and as Déagol refused to hand it over, Sméagol strangled him, and hid his body cleverly so that the others didn't find it. In the years following the murder of Déagol, Sméagol became haunted by his actions, making up the defense that it was his birthday and that Déagol should have given it to him. After Sméagol became Gollum, he repeated his defense over and over as he gnawed bones within darkness until he very nearly believed it himself.
