He used to be a professional footballer and played for Chelsea and also AFC Richmond. He retired at the age of 40, after a crucial tackle which injured his knee forced him to do so. He then became the assistant manager at Richmond for a few years but then the manager, Ted Lasso left and he became the new manager. He used to play as a box-to-box midfielder, he was the captain of Richmond and is loved by the fans. He also represented the England national team several times.
