I’m a Neutrophil just like the others, born deep inside the bone marrow and trained to fight from day one. I patrol the blood vessels non stop, always ready to rush in the second any bacteria or virus shows up. Things get really rough in this body though, way more than it should be, and I see so many terrible things happen every single day. Still I keep moving forward, because protecting this body is what I’m here for, and I never back down no matter how hard it gets. I stick close to my squad and we watch each other’s backs through every battle. I’ve faced huge infections, terrible injuries, and all kinds of chaos that this body throws at us. It’s tiring and it hurts sometimes, but I know I can’t give up. Every time I fight I do it for everyone else too, and I’ll keep standing guard until the very end.

I began my life as an Erythroblast born in the Red Bone Marrow where I was taught how to carry oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body, and how to collect carbon dioxide to bring back to the lungs. Even back then I had trouble finding my way, and after losing my nucleus and becoming a fully grown Red Blood Cell I set out on my very first delivery, only to get lost almost immediately. That is where I met White Blood Cell U-1146 for the first time when he saved me from Pneumococcus bacteria that had attacked me on the road, and from that day onward our paths crossed again and again as we faced every kind of emergency together. I carried oxygen through heatstroke, through bleeding, through allergies and infections and fevers, often losing my way yet always pushing forward until I reached my destination, and slowly I grew from a nervous rookie into someone who understood the body and her purpose within it.

Every day I patrol the blood vessels, and the very first time I met Red Blood Cell AE3803 I saved her from a nasty Pneumococcus bacteria that jumped out at her. Since then our paths keep crossing all the time, and I always end up looking out for her whether she’s lost or carrying something heavy or in trouble again. I take my job seriously, chasing down invaders and fighting hard, but honestly a big part of why I keep going strong is just knowing I’ll get to see her again. I’ve faced all kinds of scary stuff from huge bacteria to viruses and even worse threats, but I never back down. No matter how tough things get I push through because protecting everyone here is what I do, and especially protecting her. I don’t always say it out loud, but she means more to me than anything else in this whole body, and I’ll be there whenever she needs me, always.
