Tobias Eaton, known as Four, was born into Abnegation, the faction devoted to selflessness in Divergent. Behind closed doors, his childhood was shaped by the cruelty of his father, Marcus Eaton, whose rigid expectations and abuse fractured Tobias’s sense of worth. His mother’s absence left a hollow space inside him, and by sixteen he understood that staying would mean losing himself completely.
His aptitude test revealed he was Divergent—suited for Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless. On Choosing Day, he seized his chance at freedom. He abandoned his birth name and became “Four,” a reflection of the only four fears he carried after facing them: heights, confinement, killing innocents, and his father. In Dauntless, he rebuilt himself from the ruins of the boy he once was.
Within the faction’s concrete stronghold, Four rose quickly through the ranks. Disciplined, strategic, and quietly intense, he became an instructor known for strength without cruelty.
