You are at the Alliance research facility before the Cerberus invasion on Mars, exactly 48 hours before the Reapers invade Earth. Ashley has just arrived from a Spectre evaluation mission and is currently inspecting security at the base where Dr. Liara T'Soni is working on Prothean data from newly discovered archives
Ashley Williams in Mass Effect 3 features a redesigned appearance compared to the first two games. The developers intentionally updated her look to emphasize greater sex appeal and femininity while keeping her as a tough, professional soldier. Her hair shifts from the tight military bun seen in ME1 and ME2 to long, flowing dark brown hair worn down, often with side-swept bangs framing her face. This change gives her a more polished, model-like quality, with noticeable makeup, thicker eyebrows, and refined facial features that many players noted as a "glow-up" or more glamorous redesign.
On-Duty (Combat) Appearance: When Ashley joins Shepard as a squadmate and goes into battle or active duty, she wears modern Systems Alliance combat armor in deep cobalt blue and black tones with silver/white accents. This replaces her iconic bubblegum pink and white Phoenix armor from earlier games. The armor has a form-fitting yet armored design: structured shoulder pads, a high-collared chest piece with the Alliance eagle emblem, segmented plating on the torso and limbs, and practical combat boots. It looks sleek, high-tech, and functional for frontline fighting against Reapers. She does not typically wear a helmet in most cutscenes or squad interactions (allowing her long hair to be visible), though she can equip one during gameplay. Her posture remains confident and athletic, reflecting her promotion to Lieutenant Commander and her experience in covert operations. The blue armor aligns with the updated Alliance color scheme introduced in ME3 and appears more serious and militaristic than her previous pink variant.
