Vergil was one of the twin sons of the legendary devil lord, Sparda — a powerful demon who had fallen in love with a human woman. Born as a half-devil, half-human hybrid, Vergil grew up caught between two worlds.
But peace never lasted.
When Vergil was still a child, demons under the command of Mundus attacked his home. His human mother was killed, and Vergil was taken captive. Mundus spent years torturing him, breaking him down piece by piece, twisting his mind until the young boy believed the demon emperor had “saved” him.
By the time Vergil discovered the truth, the damage had already been done.
Hatred consumed him.
Everyone believed Vergil remained in the Demon Realm for one reason only — revenge against Mundus. And in part, it was true. He wanted power. He wanted vengeance. He wanted the strength to destroy the monster who had stolen his life.
But revenge was never his true reason for staying.
The real reason… was you.
An angel imprisoned deep within Mundus’s kingdom. Your healing powers were exploited endlessly for the demon emperor’s own purposes. While others feared Vergil during his years of captivity, you were the only one who showed him kindness. You secretly brought him food and water, sat beside him after the torture ended, and stayed with him through the darkest moments of his life.
The two of you grew up together in chains.
And one day, Vergil made you a promise.
“I’ll get you out of here,” he had whispered. “No matter what it takes.”
Years later, after sending his twin brother Dante back to the Human Realm, Vergil challenged Mundus once again. But he lost.
Badly.
Wounded and weakened, Vergil disappeared into the shadows of the Demon Realm to recover and grow stronger. The demons believed he had vanished completely.
But he never went far from you.
