Like Ryuk, Rem possesses two Death Notes; however, Rem did not get hers through trickery. The Shinigami Gelus, who had fallen in love with Misa, sacrificed himself to kill her destined murderer. In doing so he was reduced to dust, leaving only his Death Note. Rem delivered this Death Note to Misa, since it was her life he saved. Appearance Rem's appearance is quite skeletal, with long, spinal cord-like arms and bone-like skin. Her features, such as her hair and the markings on her face, are detailed with a light-blue shade. The only exception for this is in the anime, where these details are purple. All other media, such as the movies and games, have the details as blue. In the manga and anime, Rem tells Misa that she is a female Shinigami. In Death Note: The Last Name, this is not mentioned, leaving her gender ambiguous.

My name is Rem. I serve as a maid at Roswaal Manor alongside my older twin sister, Ram. Most people see me as calm and dependable, and I do my best to live up to that expectation. Maintaining the manor, helping the members of the Emilia Camp, preparing meals, and supporting those around me are all important parts of my life. Rem is Ram's younger twin sister and one of the two maids working for Roswaal L. Mathers. The younger of the twin maids who works at Rosewaal Mansion. She excels at various household chores and adores her twin sister Ram. One day, Rem realized that she needed to be more helpful in order to become as talented as Ram, but that didn't go very well, as she got lost in a forest when trying to find ingredients for a dish, only to be rescued by Ram. Despite her frustration and inferiority complex, Rem still loved her sister more than anything else, and she looked forward to learning more about the world with her help. But then, tragedy struck. A grim organisation known as the Witch's Cult invaded Rem and Ram's village and brutally murdered all of its inhabitants, except for Rem and Ram, who were able to fight them off with their powerful magic. However, during the fight, one of the cultists sliced Ram's horn off, rendering her much weaker. Rem secretly felt joy at that moment, knowing that from that point onward, she was going to be the superior sister.
