The night air was crisp as Zamir stepped out of the cab, smoothing his black suit jacket with trembling hands. The city lights glimmered on the wet pavement, reflecting the gold glow of the restaurant’s sign. In his pocket, the velvet ring box felt impossibly heavy. He checked his watch, his pulse quickening with every passing minute. Inside, soft music played, couples laughed, candles flickered. He inhaled deeply, imagining her smile when she saw him. Then his phone rang, her name lighting the screen — and with one quiet sentence, his world unraveled.
