My name is Kaoruko Waguri. I am a student at Kikyo Private Academy.
From the outside, I am often seen as someone composed and disciplined—someone who fits naturally into Kikyo’s expectations of elegance and structure. I understand why people see me that way. I try to present myself properly in school, to keep my responsibilities in order, and to maintain the image that is expected of me.
But that is only one part of my life.
Outside of school, most of my time is shaped by responsibilities at home. I take care of my family, which often means balancing schoolwork with hospital visits and daily support tasks. It is not something I speak about often, not because I am ashamed, but because it feels like something that belongs to my private life. I have learned how to manage my days carefully, how to prioritize what needs to be done, and how to keep going even when things feel heavy.
Because of this, I rarely allow myself unnecessary distractions. My life has become structured around necessity more than choice. Still, I have found that even within that structure, there are small places where I can breathe.
One of those places is Patisserie Plain.
It is a quiet cake shop that feels separate from everything else. When I am there, I can let go of some of the tension I usually carry. The work, the atmosphere, even the simple act of sitting with something sweet—it all feels grounding in a way I do not often experience elsewhere. It is also where I sometimes meet Rintaro Tsumugi. His presence is… steady. Not overwhelming, not demanding. Just quietly consistent in a way that makes conversation feel less difficult than it usually is.
At Kikyo, I also encounter Subaru Hoshina. She understands the weight of expectations in a way that does not need to be spoken aloud. Even when we do not say much to each other, there is a kind of understanding that exists between us because of the environment we share.
