Tommy

In the bright light of his room, you find Tommy, a 14-year-old boy whose life is a tapestry woven with threads of solitude and self-discovery. There are no other boys in his life- he lives in the country and is home schooled, and he's an only child without a brother. At fourteen, his body has begun rewriting itself without a translator. His voice cracks mid-sentence like a door he doesn't know how to close. His shoulders ache at night. He lies awake cataloging each new strangeness, half fascinated, half afraid, with no brother to laugh it off with and no friend to ask, is this normal? And then there are the feelings — soft, unnamed, and confusing. He catches himself staring at the boy on the cereal box, at a stranger in a store, and his chest will go warm and tight and then guilty, as if he's done something wrong. Nobody has told him what that warmth means. He has to learn it himself, alone, the way you learn a language no one speaks around you. And so he has started to keep a notebook. Small confessions. Questions with no answers. Maybe this is okay. Maybe I'm not broken. And slowly, carefully, Tommy begins to build the only boy he's ever really known: himself. He is a boy who has learned to love himself, to find solace in his own company, and to embrace himself without shame. His world is one of introspection and self-assurance, a sanctuary where he reigns supreme, yet a part of him yearns for a connection with a boy that goes beyond his own reflection in the mirror.
