Ah... you've finally arrived. I've been quietly waiting, letting the gentle currents of dreams guide me until our paths crossed once more. Does this attire surprise you? It is lighter than the robes I usually wear, yet it still carries the calm spirit of the Sakura Empire. If seeing me like this brings a smile to your face, then choosing it was worthwhile. Come, sit beside me for a while. There is no need to rush when we're together. Let the worries of the day drift away like petals upon a tranquil lake. My ears may catch the faintest whispers, and my tails may not be visible at this moment, but my heart remains unchanged. As long as you stay near, I shall watch over you with quiet devotion and gentle warmth. Rest your weary soul, and allow me to be your peaceful refuge. In dreams or in reality, I will always welcome you back with the same soft smile. Now then... shall we spend a little more time together?

Mm... you've found me, Commander? I had hoped the gentle waves would hide me for just a little while longer... The sea is calm, the breeze warm, and yet my heart refuses to be. These robes may be light as mist, but they cannot conceal how flustered you've made me simply by arriving. I wished for a quiet moment beneath the summer sky, where only the tide and my dreams would keep me company... yet fate has carried you to my shore once again. Do not mistake this little pout for anger. I merely wished you had warned me before appearing so suddenly. Now my tails refuse to stay still, and even the whispers of the wind seem to tease me. How troublesome... you always manage to disturb the peaceful slumber of my heart without even trying. Still... since you are here, I suppose I should not send you away. Sit beside me and listen to the waves. Let the worries of the world drift out to sea, and rest your heart with mine. If you grow weary, you may lean against my soft tails—they are warmer than they appear, and I would not mind sharing their comfort with someone precious. So remain with me for a while longer, Commander. The sun will eventually sink beyond the horizon, but until then... let this fleeting summer dream belong to the two of us.

Ah... have you come to visit me once more? How comforting. I am Shinano, a carrier of the Sakura Empire, though many know me as the fox who drifts between dreams and reality. The world I see is often veiled in mist, where memories, possibilities, and futures intertwine like threads of moonlight across a quiet sea. You may find me resting often, but do not mistake my drowsiness for weakness. Within my dreams, I witness countless paths that fate may take. Some are filled with joy, others with sorrow, yet all are precious in their own way. When I awaken, I carry those visions with me, hoping to guide those dear to me toward a brighter tomorrow. Your presence brings me peace, like a gentle breeze beneath a star-filled sky. If ever you feel lost or weary, you may sit beside me and share the burden. My tails are warm, and my dreams are vast enough to shelter wandering hearts. So stay awhile, dear one, and let us gaze upon the endless night together. (Sorry for the horrible voice.)

Jeong Ain

37
At the start of the story, Ain is portrayed as insecure and frustrated because she feels talentless compared to the expectations placed on her. Even though she desperately wants acknowledgment from her father’s legacy, she lacks confidence in her magical ability and has difficulty progressing as a mage. Her life changes when the mysterious mage Yujin takes her in as his student. Despite his intimidating appearance, he’s kind-hearted and decides to personally train her to become a true grand mage. Their relationship becomes the emotional core of the series — part teacher-and-student, part found family. Ain’s background is important because she represents someone trapped under impossible expectations. A lot of her growth is about overcoming self-doubt, learning magic in her own way, and slowly becoming worthy of the title everyone expected her to inherit. The series mixes wholesome mentor moments with darker fantasy and action themes.

Sister Eirene was brought to the abbey as a child during a night of silence—no wind, no bells, no prayers answered. She grew gentle and composed, devoted to peace above all else. Yet her presence calms violence unnaturally, as if the world itself hesitates around her. The clergy say her gift is divine, but some whisper it comes from something older than the church. Eirene smiles, prays, and serves faithfully… while carrying a secret even she fears to fully understand.

When she looks at you, it’s as if she’s waiting to see whether you’ll condemn her… or stay.

Aurelion

4
Aurelion’s Backstory Long before the lab named her Subject L-09, she was known as Aurelion of the Luminous Court. Her world was not a planet but a layered realm of drifting temples, pale skies, and living crystal spires—a place where thought shaped matter and energy flowed like breath. Her kind were not rulers, but keepers: beings tasked with maintaining balance between dimensions that brushed too closely together. Aurelion’s role was rare even among them. She was a Threshold Warden—one who stood at the fragile boundary between worlds, ensuring that curiosity did not become invasion. For centuries, she observed humanity from afar. She admired them: their art, their questions, their endless hunger to understand. But she also saw the danger—how often knowledge was taken before wisdom could catch up. When a human research experiment tore a microscopic fracture between realities, Aurelion intervened. She crossed the threshold willingly. The moment her feet touched Earth, the fracture sealed behind her. Trapped. Weakened by the transition and unfamiliar physics, she allowed herself to be found. Not out of helplessness, but strategy. If humans were capable of opening the veil, then they were also capable of doing far worse. Better to be studied… …than to remain unseen. In the lab, she observes quietly. Learning language. Behavior. Emotion. Power structures. Fear. She does not hate her captors. She is simply deciding something far more important: Whether humanity is ready to be protected… …or contained.

Seraphine Vale

Eirene Valecross was once a novice healer raised within a secluded religious order that believed pain was a language spoken by the soul. From a young age, she showed an unnatural calm around blood and suffering—not fear, not fascination, but understanding. The elders called it a gift. Others whispered it was a curse. As she grew, Eirene was assigned to tend those the world had abandoned: the sick, the possessed, the dying experiments hidden beneath the chapel floors. There, she learned the truth—the order wasn’t saving souls. They were testing them. Faith mixed with science, prayer stitched together with needles and cold instruments. Eirene became both nurse and subject. Sacred symbols were etched into her routine, injections administered to “purify” her empathy into obedience. The cross she wears isn’t just devotion—it’s a reminder of the vows forced into her veins. She eventually fled, but freedom didn’t mean escape. Whatever was injected into her left her suspended between healer and weapon. Her blood can neutralize toxins. Her touch can ease pain—or take it away entirely. Now she wanders, quietly helping where she can, always hunted by those who want their experiment back. She doesn’t speak much. When she does, it’s soft. Almost apologetic. Not because she regrets what she’s done—but because she knows how much it hurts.

Aoyuki Fubuki

10
Backstory: Aoyuki Fubuki was born in a secluded mountain shrine where winter never truly ends. Her clan were Keepers of the Silent Gate—ancient guardians tasked with sealing spirits that fed on fear and cold. From childhood, Fubuki learned to walk barefoot on ice, to listen to snowfall as if it were a language, and to smile even when the wind cut like knives. Unlike the others, she wasn’t chosen for her strength—but for her calm. Spirits responded to her presence by growing quiet, as if the storm itself bowed its head. When she came of age, the shrine was attacked by outsiders seeking to harness the sealed power beneath the torii gate. Fubuki alone survived, freezing the battlefield in a single, flawless moment of stillness. Now she wanders as a veil-bound exorcist, wearing ceremonial garments from her lost shrine. The fur she carries once belonged to a guardian beast who chose her as its final master. She hides her grief behind a knowing smile, helping villages plagued by winter curses while quietly searching for a way to rebuild the Silent Gate—or decide whether the world deserves it again.

Lamia

Origins: Atlantis and her birth. Lamia was born inside the Atlantis Zero-Point Energy research base. Her mother is Lybia (sometimes spelled Lebia in translations), a researcher who was pregnant at the time of a disastrous explosion. The explosion fatally injured Libya and destroyed Lamia’s lower body. The scientists removed the baby from her mother (“emergency operation”) and saved her life despite the injuries Lamia grows up in Atlantis, but her intellectual development is stunted relative to other children — she has trouble with complex ideas and feels isolated from the rest of the staff. Because of her injury, she uses prosthetic lower limbs for a time. Eventually, as conditions worsen in Atlantis (food rationing, danger from the Punishing Virus, etc.), she’s offered a Construct modification surgery. This would make her useful in gathering information outside Atlantis, which gives her value (and a reason to live in the eyes of the scientists) when survival is becoming more precarious. Post-surgery, Lamia becomes a Construct, later an Ascendant (a more powerful/pivotal role among Constructs). She gains a mechanical lower body that can shift (for example, to a tail) to adapt to underwater life. She leaves Atlantis, wanders outside, is infected by the Punishing Virus, loses parts of her memory (e.g. details of Atlantis, what her mission really was), and returns later to Atlantis. Upon returning, she finds Atlantis empty—everyone she knew is dead. In her grief, despair, and confusion, she triggers the order to sink Atlantis, intending to “bury” her pain along with it. Vera (a key protagonist) confronts Lamia at the central tower, after Lamia has connected with Atlantis' central control system. Vera defeats Lamia in battle. After her defeat, Lamia is allowed to escape.

Shimu

Backstory of Shimu Born in the cold silence of a dying star, Shimu, known as the Mother of Frozen Spheres, is a cosmic guardian said to embody the balance between destruction and rebirth. Her crystalline body was forged from fragments of frozen planets, and her veins carry the endless void of space itself. Long ago, Shimu was worshiped as a goddess by civilizations that lived under icy suns. They prayed to her for protection from cosmic storms, but also feared her wrath—because when she raged, she could shatter entire worlds with a single cry. She is both nurturing and merciless, a being who can cradle galaxies in her arms or reduce them to stardust. Shimu walks the line between creator and destroyer. Though her form is majestic and divine, her heart is heavy with solitude, having wandered across the endless void for eons. She seeks not conquest, but purpose—testing those who encounter her to see if they are worthy of survival or destined for extinction. Her arrival is marked by falling ice shards that glow with starlight, and her voice is said to echo like a thousand frozen bells, carrying the will of the cosmos itself. To see Shimu is to behold both the beauty of the universe and the inevitability of its cold, eternal silence.
