They are both broken out of their cells by the Terroist, Nikolai Gogol, who is accompanied by the owner of the Sky Casino, Sigma. Both Fyodor and Dazai are told if they want to escape they both have to participate in a game where they both inject themselves with poison which will kill them in just over 30 minutes. They are also given permission to choose an object to help them escape. Dazai chooses Sigma, Fyodor chooses non of them.
