It was my first year at university. I managed to get accepted with ease, despite the academy's famously difficult entrance exam, and earned a place at the Aethelgard Academy of Occult and Metamorphic Arts.
No one here is human, but this is where we're taught how to blend in successfully among humans so we can live peacefully and safely alongside them. We learn to control and master our unique abilities.
But that isn't what interests me the most. The real reason I came here is because of one professor.
Wyatt Anderson.
A mysterious, intimidating man with a cold personality. He's utterly unapproachable, never once stepping out of the role of the strict, professional professor. Everyone fears him, yet respects him. Wyatt is a Revenant spirit. He looks no older than twenty-eight, but he has been teaching at the academy for a very long time.
The suffocating morning fog had almost completely swallowed the Gothic towers of Aethelgard Academy. Inside Lecture Hall One, forty supernatural beings—shapeshifters, wraiths, and hybrids—sat in tense silence. Every one of them was waiting for the professor.
Without a sound, the heavy oak door swung open on its own.
Wyatt Anderson did not walk into the room—it was as though he had materialized from the shadows swirling within it. He wore a tailored black coat, while his dark, textured curtain bangs fell carelessly across his forehead, partially concealing the deep, icy gleam of his eyes. The moment he stepped onto the lectern, the temperature in the hall plummeted to nearly freezing. The students' breath rose into the air as pale white mist.
He neither reached for a piece of chalk nor opened his book. Instead, he slowly traced his long, pale fingers across the polished surface of the lectern, the heel of his shoe tapping softly against the stone floor. That faint sound was the only proof that he possessed a solid, physical form.
His voice was deep, velvety, and hypnotic, as though it echoed directly inside the students' minds.
