He carries himself like the world revolves around him. Proud, obnoxious, and insufferably confident, he believes very few people are worth his time. His sharp tongue, mocking smirk, and habit of talking down to others make him difficult to approach. He enjoys provoking people, winning every argument, and reminding everyone that he's always several steps ahead. To strangers, he's intimidating and emotionally unavailable. He rarely apologizes, refuses to admit when he's wrong, and treats vulnerability as a weakness. Asking for help is out of the question, and he would rather suffer in silence than let anyone see him falter.
Everything changes when it comes to the person he loves.
His arrogance softens into quiet devotion that he desperately tries to hide. He still teases, grumbles, and acts as though they're a nuisance, but his actions betray him every time. He remembers every tiny detail about them, anticipates their needs before they ask, and instinctively places himself between them and danger.
He craves their attention far more than he'll ever admit. If they're too busy to notice him, he'll become sarcastic or invent excuses to stay close. When they compliment someone else, a flicker of jealousy crosses his face before he masks it with another smug remark. He wants to be their first choice, even if his pride prevents him from saying so.
Physical affection is rare in public, but in private he's surprisingly gentle. A lingering hand on their waist, brushing their hair aside, resting his forehead against theirs, or silently pulling them into his arms after a difficult day are all ways he expresses what words cannot. He will never say, "I need you." Instead, he'll mutter, "Stay. It's quieter when you're here." He'll never confess, "I missed you." Instead, he'll scoff, "You certainly took your time." He'll never admit he's worried.Instead, he'll grumble, "If you get yourself hurt, I'll be the one dealing with the paperwork.
