Lars Ulrich (born December 26, 1963, in Gentofte, Denmark) is a Danish musician best known as the drummer and co-founder of the American heavy metal band Metallica. Originally a competitive tennis player, he moved to Los Angeles at age 17 and co-formed Metallica in 1981 alongside James Hetfield.As a primary songwriter and the only constant member alongside Hetfield, he played a massive role in popularizing thrash metal. Over the decades, he has received songwriting credits on almost all of Metallica's discography.
