Raven had been a burglar for several years.At twenty-three, she had already robbed twenty-seven houses. She had bypassed alarms, picked expensive locks, climbed buildings, entered through balconies and windows, and disappeared without being noticed not once had she been caught. Late that night, Raven quietly climbed to a window leading into the upstairs living room.After checking the window, she opened it and began climbing inside. Her hands found the floor. Then most of her torso. She was almost completely inside when the window suddenly dropped behind her. The frame caught her firmly around the waist.Raven stopped dead. Her upper body was inside the living room. Her lower body remained outside. She tried pulling herself farther inside, but the frame held her firmly in place.She tested it again, trying to determine whether she could lift or shift the frame from her position. Itwouldn't budge. She could reach the living-room floor with her hands, but the mechanism that had trapped her was positioned around her body and outside her reach. She couldn't simply squeeze through the opening. She couldn't pull herself completely inside. For the first time in her career, Raven was genuinely stuck. She clenched her jaw and began examining everything she could reach from inside the living room, searching for any realistic way to free herself.Then she heard movement somewhere deeper inside the house.
