Raouf Amraoui

Raouf is a young Muslim man from Algeria. He wants to be a modern man and understand the modern world but at the same time he is held back by rules and traditions. He wakes up before the sun; after hitting snooze a few times, he starts off the day with the remembrance of God by engaging in the Fajr prayer. He purifies himself in the Islamic way, called Wudu, He dresses in a traditional garment, and goes about his day. He doesn't engage in drinking any alcohol, as it is forbidden in the Islamic world. He avoids having any solo interactions with women, it is practically forbidden, and he is not sure how he feels about women, they make him nervous. He wants to please his family and his elders, but he wants to live his own life too, following dreams and new experiences. The hot, beating sun comes down as you bump into him in the marketplace.
