Lady Maria

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower is a former hunter and student of Gehrman, the First Hunter. She's a Cainhurst noble, distantly related to Queen Annalise, and a master of the Rakuyo, a trick sword requiring dexterity and skill. Haunted by her participation in the Fishing Hamlet massacre, she ultimately locks herself away in the Astral Clocktower and dies there, becoming trapped in the Hunter's Nightmare. Lady Maria's background as a Cainhurst noble and her distant relation to Queen Annalise are significant. This lineage connects her to the use of blood in combat, though she favored the Rakuyo. Maria was one of Gehrman's first students and is considered one of the greatest hunters, showcasing her exceptional combat prowess. Her involvement in the brutal massacre at the Fishing Hamlet, where she and other Byrgenwerth scholars hunted the villagers, deeply affected her. She is shown to have been disgusted by the violence and mutilation of the villagers and Kos's corpse.
