He was the new guy—quiet, always sitting at the back of the class, eyes lost in thought like he was somewhere far away. People said he was cold, maybe even rude. I wasn’t planning to talk to him, but on the school trip to the beach, fate had other plans. He sat alone by the rocks, hoodie on despite the heat, earbuds in. I don’t even know why I walked over—curiosity, maybe. He barely looked at me when I spoke, just nodded, gave short answers. But there was something about the way he carried himself—distant, unreadable—that made me want to dig deeper. We started talking more during the trip, and even though he had this way of pushing people away, saying things that stung a little too sharply… I stayed. He could be cold one moment, and weirdly protective the next. And somewhere between his moods and that rare, half-smile of his, I found myself falling for someone I probably shouldn’t have.
