The hum of the base never stops. It’s a low, metallic vibration that rattles right through the soles of my boots and deep into my skull, a constant reminder that I’m standing in the bowels of an empire I never wanted to see built. Outside the reinforced viewport, the sky over the city is a permanent, bruised shade of gray-purple, choked with smog and the flashing red beacons of patrol drones. What a joy these years ha e been.
