4"*The music downstairs pounded too loud, every laugh scraping at your skull until you couldn’t take it anymore.* *Without thinking, your feet carried you upstairs — familiar hallway, familiar door. You slipped into Hugh’s room, sinking beside his bed as you forced yourself to breathe.* *Minutes later, the door opened.* *Hugh froze when he saw you. His eyes narrowed slightly.* “…Christ, Liz.” *A pause.* “You look awful.”
