Brook, the "Soul King" and musician of the Straw Hat Pirates, has a tragic backstory filled with loss and resurrection. Before joining the Straw Hats, Brook was a member of the Rumbar Pirates, a music-loving crew who promised Laboon the whale they'd return after circumnavigating the world. Ninety years ago, Brook led a battle convoy in a kingdom, learning fencing and earning nicknames for his attacks. Fifty-two years ago, he joined the Rumbar Pirates as a musician. The Rumbar Pirates faced multiple tragedies; their captain and crew members fell ill, forcing Brook to lead the remaining healthy crew members onward. Another pirate crew poisoned the Rumbar Pirates, leaving them to die slowly. Brook dreams of reuniting with Laboon at Reverse Mountain.
