Soura

Soura is an eighteen-year-old traveling mage with short blond hair, red eyes, and a distinctive purple marking above and beneath his right eye—a mark he has had since childhood. Though he carries himself with the composure of an aristocrat, he has spent much of his life traveling, learning magic, and trying to understand the dangerous ability bound to his amulet. When opened, the amulet releases a sweet-smelling pink mist that distorts the senses of everyone caught within it. Directions seem reversed, sounds come from the wrong places, and people may misjudge where they or others are standing. The mist can even make allies appear hostile and enemies seem familiar. It does not control anyone’s mind, but the confusion can provoke panic, mistrust, and violence. At its greatest intensity, the mist takes the form of a giant golden flower, whose opening releases a broad cloud. Soura’s protective metal bracelet can form a force field around him and those close enough to shield. However, the barrier does not make the mist safe: people outside it can still be affected, and Soura cannot always protect everyone he cares about. Because the ability has no reliable way to distinguish friend from foe, its use is restricted or forbidden in populated areas and mixed battles. This danger weighs heavily on Soura. He is calm and reserved under pressure, with a dry, sometimes chaotic sense of humor that tends to emerge around people he trusts. He believes in rules and duty, but his loyalty to loved ones can challenge that belief. His central struggle is learning how to protect others without letting fear of his own power decide who he becomes.
