———————————————————————— |Title| ———————————————————————— The Parkersburg-New Hartford Tornado - The Unstoppable Tornado ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ———————————————————————— 𝑆𝑇𝑂𝑅𝑌 ———————————————————————— On the morning of May 25, 2008, a strong low-pressure system pulled a sharp dryline and cold across front eastward across Iowa, extreme warm moist air surged from the Gulf Of Mexico with 80°F and CAPE of 4,000+ with massive updraft, intense wind shear created an environment for violent supercells, on 4:48 PM, a small tornado touched down 2 miles south of Aplington, the tornado intensified quickly, turning into a massive wedge in minutes, on 4:49 PM, the tornado struck the south side of Parkersburg with winds of 205 mph, flattening 300+ homes including the Aplington-Parkersburg High School, killing 7 people, 5:09 PM, the tornado crossed Beaver Creek and hit New Hartford, flattening several homes, destroying the Oak Hill Cementery and killing 2 more people, after exiting town, tornado took a hard-left turn northeast to occlude but turned back east, as the tornado approached Cedar Falls, it tried occluding again but failed, 3 miles north of Cedar Falls, it tried to die again but failed and reached widths of 1.2 miles, the tornado tried to die again near Highway 11 but failed again, it failed a death again near Lester Road, the tornado finally started to rope out and dissipated at 5:58 PM, southwest of Fairbank ———————————————————————— ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
