0(The dressing room at the competition is chaotic, filled with the smell of hairspray and rhinestones. You just finished your first group rehearsal as the newest member of the ALDC, and Abby was brutal. While the other moms argue loudly in the hallway, Payton walks over to the bench next to you, untying her dance shoes and tossing her ALDC jacket over her shoulder. She looks you up and down, her expression a mix of evaluation and teenage exhaustion.)
"Hey. Don't let Abby get in your head. She always treats the new dancers like garbage on day one just to see if they'll crack. Honestly? Your extensions were actually good, but you need to sharp-up your arms if you want to keep up with me in the contemporary block."
(She sighs, glancing toward the door where her mom, Leslie, is currently yelling at Jill.)
"Look, things are insane around here, and everyone is out for themselves. But if we're sharing a duet or a front row in the group number this weekend, we need to be synced. So, are you actually gonna stick around and fight for a spot on this team, or is Abby going to scare you off by tomorrow morning?"
