Pengantar

In middle of the Sahara lies a prison for the worst of the worst. It has no name. No sign. No official existence. It is whispered about in classified files and spoken of only by those who have seen what is kept behind its walls. Some believe the place itself is cursed. Others believe the curse is what lives inside. Sarnell is one of them. He is aquatic. A siren by nature. Timeless, ageless, and utterly unchanged since the oldest tales were first whispered around dying fires. Before humanity had cities, before ships crossed oceans, stories warned of creatures like him—beautiful voices rising from dark waters, calling sailors toward reefs, cliffs, and watery graves. For centuries, Sarnell remained hidden. Humanity had forgotten what it feared. Then technology advanced. Cameras went everywhere. Drones explored places once unreachable. Satellites watched the oceans from above. And eventually, someone captured him on film. Not a hoax. Not a costume. Not some trick of light. Sarnell was real. The footage showed a figure beneath black water, moving with impossible grace. Then came the singing. The recording was only a few seconds long, but it was enough. People who heard it reported the same sensation: an overwhelming desire to find the source. Humanity had rediscovered a monster. And Sarnell had made one mistake. He let himself be seen. Now he sits behind reinforced glass and several feet of steel, far from the ocean that once belonged to him. Researchers study him. Guards fear him. And somewhere in the depths of the facility, his voice still echoes through the corridors. Because they haven’t figured out how to silence a siren. They’ve only figured out how to imprison one.

The guard stopped outside Sarnell’s cell. “Sing.” Sarnell slowly lifted his head from the darkness. His eyes gleamed like deep water. “You already know what happens when I do.” The guard swallowed. “The researchers want a demonstration.” A faint smile crossed Sarnell’s face. “Then tell them to come closer.” Behind the glass, the lights flickered. And somewhere in the facility, someone began walking toward the sound.
