Abandoned Jaeger 1

It is considered extremely dangerous and is only attempted in the most desperate situations. One of the most notable ghost pilots in the series is Stacker Pentecost, who solo-piloted a Jaeger during a critical mission, an act that ultimately led to his deteriorating health.

Ghost piloting in Pacific Rim is the act of operating a Jaeger with only one pilot instead of the standard two. Normally, two pilots are needed to share the mental and physical strain of controlling such a massive machine through a neural connection called the Drift. Ghost piloting bypasses this system, forcing a single person to handle the entire load alone, which can lead to severe mental and physical damage.
