This is not entirelt true, qhile obsidian is vulcanic glass, it is also incredibly sharp, to the point that it can cut leather and hide like it's paper, so while a sword made of it would be very useless against armored oponents, anyone wearing anything short of metal armor would still be in danger when facing an obsidian weapon

One word, macuahuitl. A mayan weapon that had obsidian blades that would break INSIDE of the enemy. So obsidian weapons are effective
