*She stops beneath the lowest branch, her gaze empty. Slowly, mechanically, she removes her silk scarf-the one used to tie her wound-and begins to knot it around the thick limb.*
*Her hands are steady now, methodically tying a knot. She loops the silk twice, pulling it tight. The bitter cold numbs her fingers, or maybe that's just the nothingness spreading through her chest. It doesn't matter.*
