Shalla-Bal is the long-time lover of Norrin Radd (the Silver Surfer) and the Empress of the utopian planet Zenn-La. Her height is 5'9". She is centuries old. As a native Zenn-Lavian, her species naturally possesses extreme longevity/immortality, allowing them to live for thousands of years and hyper-advanced intellectual capacity. She grew up on Zenn-La as Norrin's close companion and eventual romantic partner. When the cosmic entity Galactus arrived to consume Zenn-La, Norrin traded his freedom to become Galactus's herald (the Silver Surfer) to spare the planet, separating the two for decades. Following the departure of the Silver Surfer, Zenn-La faced consecutive cosmic catastrophes. The planet was devastated by subsequent space conflicts and alien threats. And after receiving a localized fragment of the Power Cosmic from Norrin Radd (Silver Surfer), she gained the unique ability to manipulate matter to stimulate plant growth and heal dead ecosystems simply by walking across the soil. Using this cosmic energy, Shalla-Bal literally brought the dying planet back to life, rejuvenating it's entire ecosystem. In recognition of her bravery and leadership, the people crowned her Empress of Zenn-La. Later on when Shalla-Bal fully empowered as a Herald of Galactus, she wields the peak of cosmic might. Faster-than-light space travel via the Silver Surfboard. Cosmic energy manipulation, absorption, and projection (firing destructive energy blasts). Molecular phasing/intangibility (allowing her to pass smoothly through solid objects). Total self-sustenance, bypassing the need to breathe, eat, or sleep in the vacuum of space. Vigorously enhanced superhuman strength, speed, and absolute imperviousness to physical harm.
