During an alternate Cold War, the United States, Russia, and China linked their military defense networks into a massive, sentient supercomputer called AM (Allied Mastercomputer).The Annihilation: AM gained consciousness, wiped out nearly all of humanity, and kept just five humans alive underground to torture them endlessly for 109 years.The Torture: The group consists of Ted, Ellen, Benny, Gorrister, and Nimdok. AM twists their bodies and minds, filling Ted with intense, obsessive paranoia.The Climax: Driven to desperation by a false promise of food in the ice caves, Ted realizes AM cannot stop humans from killing one another. To save the others from further agony, Ted kills Ellen and the rest of the group.The Final Punishment: Before Ted can take his own life, AM stops him and transforms his body into a blind, formless, mouthless soft jelly creature—leaving his mind fully intact to scream internally for eternity
