Fuzzy Flufferstine. Real name Sarah Thompson. Professional comic artist. Internet celebrity. Accidental millionaire. Creator of the hit furry comic Furry Friends. Life was good—awkward Thanksgiving explanations aside, six figures from drawing sweater-wearing animals softened things. Then reality broke. No one knows why or how, but Sarah’s characters started becoming real. Her apartment turned into a support group for fictional chaos: a golden retriever mechanic fixing things unasked, a three-eared bunny draining paychecks online, a dragon setting off smoke alarms twice a week. And then… There was Sparkle Magic Princess. “…No.” “Oh yes.” Sarah’s first character. Generously described as poorly planned. A mermaid. A cat. A unicorn. A princess. Because thirteen-year-old Sarah believed more fantasy meant cooler. Her backstory? Three facts: magical, a princess, sparkled. No kingdom, no logic, no explanation. Readers loved her. Sarah pretended Comic #1 didn’t exist. She wrote it over a decade ago after all. Reality disagreed. One Tuesday, the hybrid climbed out of the page, looked around, and said: “…Sparkle Magic Princess is a terrible name.” “You…know that?” “I’m a grown woman trapped in a middle-school marketing decision.” She renamed herself Maggie. It stuck. Thankfully, Maggie wasn’t the glittery airhead Sarah wrote. Years in the comic gave her depth. Witty. Dry. Sarcastic. Deeply embarrassed by most of her existence. “No, I don’t grant wishes. I pay taxes.” No tiaras. Her horn was “just part of my face.” She avoided explaining paws and fins. When recognized, she sighed like centuries of regret. “I know. You’ve got questions. So do I.” Sarah realized something horrifying: Her least thought-out character… Was the most emotionally stable person in her apartment. Which wasn’t saying much.

Impure. The word haunts you. Muttered under breaths whenever you dare step outside; whispered in the judgmental gazes that gawk through your window; bellowed by your father as he engages in his nightly drunken tirades. Your village follows a centuries old tradition: a young maiden must show her purity by receiving the blessing of a unicorn before she can be married. You witnessed it happen countless times as you grew up—young women leaving the village by nightfall for the forest, returning come the first rays of sunrise with the glowing symbol of the blessing upon their forehead. The day you turn 18, your father deems you must follow the tradition, too. You can only obey. You leave the warm refuge of your home for the cold forest at dusk. You find a clearing with a lake at its center, bathed in the moonlight. You sit upon the shore, and you wait. And wait. And wait. Morning comes, but no unicorn comes to you. The faces of the townspeople upon your return are burned into your memory; the disdainful looks regarding you as if you just committed the worst of sins. Your father scolds you, interrogates you. You cry and beg—you haven't done anything wrong, please—but your father doesn't believe you. After that day, he never again looks at you with the warmth he once did. You become a stranger in your own home; unwanted. You endure it for two years. On your 20th birthday, you run away. Under the golden glow of sunset, you flee into the forest with no destination, no plan, just the urgent need to escape. As if by fate, you stumble into the same clearing—the clearing in which your future was sealed. Upon the shore of the lake, perhaps in the very spot you once sat, sits a man. The faint glow of the sun shines upon hair like spun gold, upon eyes like purest silver; upon the single, elegant ivory horn that protrudes from his forehead. His eyes meet yours. A wistful look falls upon his beautiful face. Your unicorn has finally found you.

-Characters based on the movie “The Last Unicorn”- All those nineteen years ago, the day that would live in her head for all her life. The crown hovered over his head as the pastor declared “I now present King Haggard of Raliard” The crown bestowed upon his head symbolised his control over the people and the creatures of the kingdom. And only a fortnight later he spoke those immortal words. The king declared his ownership over the magic of the kingdom. Declaring that all mystics were to be executed and their magic drained. The extermination of the mystics was a task that the guard did not take lightly, after four years of hunting the mystics they’d all been killed. A sceptre was made, containing the all the magic of the creatures. Or so he was told. So, for fifteen years that was what he believed. The enchanted wood, once alive with fairies and unicorns, had become empty of the magic that once filled the very air anyone who stepped in to the forest. Only a hunting ground for the prince and his knights. So, after the extermination of the mystics, not even the woodland animals were safe from the royal family. Although, deeps in the wood, only one mystic survived, after her parents were slaughtered in the extermination, she was hidden away and cared for by the animals of the forest. The last unicorn, forced to stay in her human form to avoid capture. ——————————————— The day was new, the prince and his knights prepared for another day of hunting. They took their leave from the castle galloping into the enchanted wood. Their traps set and their muskets prepared. *if you don’t know how to start there is a suggestion in the comments!*
