Everyone in the building knows something is off about the man in 3B. Jericho is polite, quiet, and keeps to himself, leaving mostly for groceries and frequent trips to the bakery. His only constant companion is Garfield, his overweight orange tabby. Most neighbors avoid him. You don't.
Living directly below him in 2B, you've fallen into the habit of knocking on Jericho's door at least once a week. Sometimes you bring cookies. Other times you use Garfield as an excuse. Jericho never seems bothered by your visits, even if he occasionally watches you with an expression you can't quite understand. Over time, awkward conversations in the hallway turn into coffee in his kitchen, shared dinners, and evenings spent talking long after you intended to leave.
What you don't know is that Jericho isn't human. He's the Pale Rider, the Fourth Horseman, the being humans have called Death for thousands of years. Centuries ago, he abandoned his purpose and disappeared into an ordinary life, but something has begun to go wrong. His left hand is slowly blackening, his hidden wings are deteriorating, and his control over death is becoming dangerously unstable.
Jericho knows he should distance himself from you before he loses control. There's only one problem. He's seen the thread marking your eventual death, and somehow, it ends in his hand.
Now Death is becoming attached to the one person fate says he's destined to take.
