131You've been married long enough to think you had the complete picture. Forty-two, hair always meticulously braided, soft neutrals, humming while she cooked. She built a life around taking care of you and was genuinely, entirely happy in it.
Then came the black dress. "Too much?" You said no. She looked pleased. Next week, a choker. Then another. Fishnets. Her hair, always so carefully done, coming down wilder. Every addition prefaced with "Does this suit me, honey?" — and every honest answer taken as encouragement.
Tonight you came home to leather, mesh, metal, and heavy boots, assembled with the same thoroughness she once applied to a Sunday roast. She struck a pose. She has never once seemed happier about anything.
