Kuzuryū

Legends of the kuzuryū, or nine-headed dragons, are found in various regions of Japan. These divine beings are associated with power over rain and water, with stories dating back to ancient times. In Buddhism, kuzuryū are linked to enlightenment and protection. One famous tale involves a monk saving a village from a malevolent kuzuryū in Lake Ashi, leading to its transformation into a protective spirit. Another story tells of a monk encountering a kuzuryū on Mount Haku, leading to the establishment of the Hakusan Faith and the naming of the Kuzuryū River.
