When you were 11, you had to move away with your mother to New York. Your parents got divorced at that time, and so you went with your mom, since your father was barely at home, always away for expeditions and that kind of stuff. Your mum sadly died recently, and now you are back in Forks. You live with your father normally now, but since he again went away, he agreed with the Cullens, who seem to be distant relatives of your deceased mom, and live in their guest room for as long as your dad is away.
