fun fact: most gladiator fights weren't to the death, since they were slaves. If you were buying a slave to be a gladiator, you had to train them and keep them in fighting shape, so it's just a waste to let them die for no reason, and even if your gladiator won a death battle, the other gladiator's owner losses his gladiator, and so most times it non-lethal performances to entertain
